Six suspected Hizb ut-Tahrir members face trial in Ufa

Moscow, August 10, Interfax – An indictment has been approved in a criminal case against six residents of Bashkortostan charged with extremism, the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office said.

Investigators have found that in 2009, Ildar Ibragimov, Rustem Gallyamov, Shamil Galimov and Mikhail Toptygin set up an Ufa-based cell of the terrorist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir, which aims to topple non-Islamic governments and to install Islamic rule on a global scale by creating the Global Islamic Caliphate.

The cell’s active members included Airat Akhmetshin, Ruslan Zainullin and others.

“Knowing that the said party was ruled a terrorist organization by the Russian Supreme Court and that it is banned in Russia, the accused were deliberately carrying out anti-Russian, anti-constitutional activities,” the statement said.

They were involved in public propaganda combined with intolerance towards other religions, recruited other members and prepared and distributed extremist material, according to the inquiry.

The actions of the accused were qualified, depending on the extent of their criminal involvement, as “organizing and participating in the activity of an extremist organization.”

Once approved, the indictment has been sent to judges at the court N9 in Ufa’s Kirovsky district.
