A hard-line Muslim group has not yet decided whether to sue a Chicago-area hotel that canceled its reservation for a conference.

Hizb ut-Tahrir’s annual event was scheduled for the Marriott Hotel in west suburban Oak Brook this past weekend. The group advocates the establishment of a pan-Islamic nation under strict religious rule.

Most Muslims consider it a minor, extremist group. But Jeffrey Imm of Baltimore says it advocates violence against adulterers, homosexuals, and those leave Islam. So he called the hotel to voice his concerns:

IMM: I am concerned about these people that openly call for the death of other people.

Ayman Hamed, a conference organizer, says he told the Marriott about Hizb ut-Tahrir’s mission and history.

HAMED: They said ‘so what, as long as you’re not illegal or a criminal organization, we will award our facility for your event.’

Marriott Corporate Communications says it will not host the conference for “business reasons.”
